The 10th International Conference on the BEHAVIOUR OF STEEL STRUCTURES IN SEISMIC AREAS Timisoara, Romania, 25-27 May 2022

STESSA 2022 Behaviour of Steel Structures in Seismic Areas

STESSA is the specialty conference on seismic design and performance of steel structures. Its main mission is to provide an international forum for researchers and engineers to share with their peers the latest developments in the field of seismic behaviour of steel structures.

Previous editions of STESSA were held in Timisoara (Romania, 1994), Kyoto (Japan, 1997), Montreal (Canada, 2000), Naples (Italy, 2003), Yokohama (Japan, 2006), Philadelphia (United States, 2009), Santiago (Chile, 2012), Shanghai (China, 2015) and Christchurch (New Zealand, 2018).

The 10th International Conference on the Behaviour of Steel Structures in Seismic Areas (STESSA 2022) is to take place on 25 - 27 May 2022 in Timisoara, Romania. It is organised by Politehnica University of Timisoara and the Romanian Academy, Timisoara Branch, in cooperation with the University of Naples "Federico II".

The 10th anniversary edition of the STESSA conference returns to Timisoara, the city where it started, as a tribute to Victor Gioncu, who came with the idea of initiating the series of conferences dedicated to the behaviour of steel structures in seismic areas. This conference will bring together academics, researchers and engineers from around the world to discuss the latest developments related to the behaviour of steel structures in seismic areas.

TRAVEL AND ACCOMODATION

Travel information

Timisoara is served by Romania's third-largest airport, Traian Vuia International Airport, located 10 km away from the city center. Flights to and from international or domestic destinations can be made by airlines like Lufthansa, WizzAir, RyanAir, BlueAir, TAROM.

The most convenient way to get from the airport into the city is by taxi (or UBER), at a cost of 50 –75 RON (about 10-15 EUR). There is always the option to take a bus or to rent a car. You can find various car rental companies (Avis, Hertz, Europecar, Ascar, TOP Rent a Car, Maya Rent a Car) at the Timisoara Airport.

Romania's currency is Leu (plural "Lei"), commonly abbreviated as RON. Foreign currencies may be exchanged at banks, authorized exchange offices, airport, ATMs and larger hotels. Major credit cards (Mastercard and Visa) are widely accepted.

The exchange rate is 1 EUR = 4.95 RON

Alternatively, there is the option to fly to/from Budapest (Hungary). Pay attention, this airport is located 286 km away from Timisoara, which will add around 3 - 4 hours to your trip (by car, bus or train).

Visa information

EU/EEA/Swiss citizens do not need a visa when crossing the border to Romania, but they are required to present a valid national passport, or any document recognized by the Romanian state that certifies their identity. Citizens of non-EU/EEA countries are required at border crossing points to present a passport and a valid entry visa and an invitation (if required). Please check the list of countries whose nationals do / do not need entry visas for Romania here www.mae.ro.

COVID-19 information

Currently the epidemiological situation in Romania is good, and there are no travel restrictions. COVID-19 health measures have been lifted in Romania and the 'EU Digital COVID Certificate' is not required to access public spaces anymore. The following measures are not mandatory, but still recommended: wearing facemasks in crowded open spaces, on public transport, in closed spaces. Please check the latest news here reopen.europa.eu
